Church Community and Outreach Programs

As a church and as individual members, we see ourselves as participants (not as participating) in Christ's ministry. Participation takes various forms for different members of the congregation. We minister to each other through Fellowship (coffee hour following the service, potluck dinners, parish breakfasts) and pastoral care (prayer list, pastoral visits, prayer group). Please access our Parish Life page to find out about our regular and special in-house ministry.

We also participate in Christ's Ministry as a group in our various Community Ministry Activities, listed below. For further information about any of our community outreach programs, please call the church office or e-mail us at outreach@christchurchpok.org.

Ministries Centered at Christ Church:

  • Alcohol Recovery Advocacy Program:  This ministry provides services that will contribute to the resolution of alcohol/chemical dependency by bringing together the victim and the resource through education and awareness programs.

  • Christ Church Summer Camp:  A six-week summer day camp for inner city children.  The camp provides scholarships for those children in need.

  • Climb the Beanstalk:  This program strives to help children at a first grade reading level deepen their relationship with words by creating a literary mentorship.  The program organizes volunteer adults and children of the Christ Church community in a one-to-one relationship in which reading and story-telling play a primary and motivating role.

  • Episcopal Church at Vassar College:  ECVC serves as the Church's ministry at Vassar College.  The Reverend Suzanne Guthrie acts as chaplain to Vassar Episcopal students.

  • Iglesia La Virgen de Guadalupe

  • Larry B. Timm Fund:  A volunteer organization which provides emergency and ongoing financial assistance to people living with HIV infection and to people afflicted with AIDS.

Ministries Housed at Christ Church:

Community Ministries Supported by Christ Church:
  • Dutchess Interfaith Council:  Currently with 95 members, the DIC explores ways for the various faiths to join together for worship and fellowship.

  • Service at Vassar-Warner Home: third Sunday of every month

  • Hudson River Housing

  • Dutchess County Coalition for the Homeless:  DCCH's mission is to provide warm shelter, hot meals, clean clothes, and a place to shower for 12 people nightly, and provides counseling and assistance in finding housing and jobs in the community.  Every month, on the fourth Tuesday, volunteers from Christ Church serve at the shelter.

  • Rural and Migrant Ministry

  • Episcopal Relief and Development Fund

  • Trinity Neighborhood Association:  This organization aims to enhance the quality of life in the immediate local area by facilitating discussions with politicians and the police, by establishing a community garden, by sponsoring neighborhood cleanups and other improvement projects, and by holding social events.

  • KAIROS (for women in prison) - Click here to read about our Christmas gift-giving ministry.
