Ministry to the Community & the World

Over the length of its nearly 250 year history, Christ Church has been actively involved in meeting the needs of the local community. Academy Street in Poughkeepsie is named for the first school that Christ Church founded in the 1700’s. In the 19th Century, the founding of St. Barnabas Hospital was a part of the ministry of Christ Church. In the 20th Century, the first Dutchess County Homeless Shelter was organized by Christ Church on its premises.

This understanding of mission continues to grow and mature in our own day. There are multiple opportunities to be found within our common life, for each person to live into the words of Jesus: as you did it to the least of these, you did it unto me.
