Dutchess County Homeless Shelter

Once each month, members of Christ Church prepare and serve dinner to the residents at the Dutchess County Coalition for the Homeless Overnight Shelter. We presently have seven teams of three parishioners who perform this ministry – meaning each team visits the Shelter once or sometimes twice each year.

Dutchess County Coalition for the Homeless was started at Christ Church in 198???, when our parish, began to offer emergency overnight lodging for area homeless. This was the first program providing overnight housing for the homeless in the Poughkeepsie area.  When the program began overnight lodging was provided in the Christ Church Rectory, then known as the Parish House.  The program eventually outgrew the facilities available in the Parish House.  In 1988 responsibility for program was assumed by Hudson River Housing.  Christ Church is grateful for having had the opportunity to help create this program, and continues to be supportive of this important work in our community.
