Membership at Christ Church

Adding your name to the parish mailing list is quite simple: complete the Household Information Form and return it to the Parish Office.

If you are baptized, formal membership at Christ Church may simply require a Letter of Transfer from your previous faith community. You can arrange to have your Letter of Transfer sent to us by calling your former congregation or by authorizing us to do that on your behalf.

Not baptized? Please be in conversation with the Rector regarding this important step in each person’s journey of faith. For additional information regarding Baptism, please click here.

Not an Episcopalian? We still prefer to request a Letter of Transfer (no matter which denomination to which you may have belonged). We invite you to consider being Received or Confirmed in the Episcopal Church. Additional information is provided below.

Confirmation
Those who were baptized at an early age and those baptized as adults without laying on of hands by a bishop are expected to make a mature public affirmation of their faith, recommit themselves to the responsibilities of their baptism, and receive laying on of hands by a bishop (page 412 in The Book of Common Prayer).

One of the Bishops of the Diocese of New York regularly visits Christ Church for Confirmation.

Prior to the Bishop’s Visitation we conduct a multi-week Adult Confirmation Class.

Our teenagers prepare for their Confirmation through the Journey to Adulthood program.

Reception

Many people come to the Episcopal Church from other faith traditions. If you were confirmed in another denomination that included the laying on of hands by a bishop, the Episcopal Church recognizes and affirms that Confirmation. In such instance, the Bishop will ‘receive’ you into the Episcopal Church.

Those who wish to be received into the Episcopal Church are also encouraged to attend an Adult Confirmation Class.
