Mission
Our mission is to share
the Good News of Jesus Christ with the Latino population of the Hudson
Valley through worship, spiritual formation and pastoral care while
providing an environment of hospitality and encouragement to these
wonderful people as they move from immigrant to participant to member,
culminating in a full sense of belonging and ownership in their
respective communities.
Our History
The congregation of La Virgen de Guadalupe began in Poughkeepsie ten years ago. A small group of people requested that a priest provide Spanish-spoken services in their home. Within a few weeks the congregation had become so large that it moved to Christ Church. Today we hold a Spanish service every Sunday at 1:00 p.m., with the congregation averaging eighty people at each service. A Patronal Festival is held each year in December to celebrate our patron saint and attracts over four hundred people. As La Virgen de Guadalupe continues to grow it strengthens its fellowship with the Anglo congregation. Father Arnulfo
Arámbulo serves our congregation, and Mark Como is our Program Coordinator.
La Virgen de Guadalupe is part of the Mid-Hudson Region Latino Ministry,
which also includes the congregation of Santa Cruz at Holy Cross
Church, 30 Pine Grove Avenue, Kingston, New York (Fr. Arámbulo,
Pastor), and the congregation of El Buen Pastor at the Church of
the Good Shepherd, 271 Broadway, Newburgh, New York (Fr. Edmundo Desueza,
Pastor).
Our Program Our coordinator plans activities and programs which lead to the development and deepening of a relationship between the Spanish-speaking congregation of La Virgen de Guadalupe and the Anglo community at Christ Church. These programs include English as a second language classes, cross-cultural orientation, consultation and referral concerning basic immigration issues, and interfacing with social service, education and government agencies. Pastoral issues are shared and referred to the pastor/ sacramentalist. Father
Arámbulo provides liturgy/ worship, pastoral care, evangelism, outreach and administration for the members of the congregation.
