- Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Vassar College Chapel, 124 Raymond Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY. Panel discussion at 3:00 PM; Concert at 4:30 PM.
Vassar panel: Join panelists Bishop Robert Alan Rimbo, Bishop of the Metropolitan New York Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and Elizabeth Johnson, CSJ (Sisters of St. Joseph), Distinguished Professor of Theology at Fordham University, with Rev. Samuel Speers, Vassar’s Director of Religious & Spiritual Life, moderating a discussion on the 500th anniversary of the Reformation.
Both concert performances will include J.S. Bach’s Reformation Cantata Ein feste Burg, a motet by Felix Mendelssohn, Reformation-themed organ works, and the world premiere of “A Reconciliation Cantata” a newly commissioned choral work composed by James Fitzwilliam. The music will be sung by a combined choir of Cappella Festiva Chamber Choir, Vassar College Choir, and the Bruderhof Community Singers, conducted by Christine Howlett.
The two events are co-sponsored by the Vassar College Music Department, the Office of Religious & Spiritual Life, Bruderhof Communities, St. John’s Evangelical Church, Central Hudson Valley Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, and Cappella Festiva.
